Wonderdogs Labradors are my own line of personal dogs (see our story
below.) After repeated requests from friends and hunting
acquaintances, my dogs are now available at stud. If you're
looking for a Labrador Retriever stud dog, please browse our site
and learn what our dogs have to offer. Talent in the field,
great temperament, great in the house, and classic good looks.

The Wonderdogs Labradors Story
Many years ago, as a duck and pheasant hunter, I was searching for
a dog that could double as a solid hunting partner and household
companion. I was frustrated by field trial bloodlines that produced
dogs that were too "amped up" (hyperexcited) to be easy to train and
to sit quietly in a blind. I wanted to hunt these dogs for 4 months
a year, but I will live with them all year long. They live in our
house, not a kennel. We had small children and other animals as
well.
I was equally frustrated by show dog bloodlines that are beautiful
but do not have the drive or bodies to hunt pheasants or chukars all
day long, day after day.
The solution was to find hunting Labrador bloodlines that had a
strong hunting track record, but also were quiet, calm housedogs
that were easy to train. That was four generations ago. In each
succeeding generation, I searched for the females that best
exemplified great hunting ability, (particularly pheasant and chukar
dogs) and yet have that sweet, housedog personality. I then bred my
males to those females. With each generation of puppies, we have
seen the strengthening of these traits. I actually avoid bloodlines
that have too many show dogs or field trial champions in them.
A few years ago, my hunting buddies at the Oregon Department of Fish
and Wildlife (I am a retired fish and wildlife biologist) named my
dog, Roscoe, the Wonderdog! Thus, the name of this line became the
Wonderdog line of Labrador Retrievers.
If you are looking for dogs that are calm, quiet and good family
companions but have the drive to hunt ducks, geese and upland birds
all day long...the Wonderdogs, Yukon and Kodiak, may be the answer
to fathering your next litter.
Come watch them work at AKC Hunt Tests here in the Pacific
Northwest, or in the field to check them out for yourself. Bring the
family...especially the kids! |
Congratulations to Jim, Kodi, and Yuki on their successful
run at the 2016 Master National in St. Louis, Missouri!!! Both
dogs are 2016 Qualifiers!!!
Here's Kodiak, in the blind with
Yukon, who was still learning the ropes...
